Mexico City is a lively, enormous, and sometimes overwhelming city of more than 9 million people. The greater metropolitan area is home to nearly 22 million residents, making it the largest city in North America. There are over 150 museums! From historic landmarks and beautiful parks to incredible food and lively neighborhoods, there is always something to discover.
Recently, we took a two-week cruise around Southeast Asia. The cruise itself was spectacular and deserves a blog post of its own. This piece, however, isn’t about cruising—it’s a collection of snapshots from the cities we visited and the impressions we gathered along the way in this richly exotic region.
One flight ,15 hours 40 minutes. This is how our trip to South Korea started. I have never taken a single flight for that long and the thought of it made me cringe, but to me the destination was worth it. My husband is traveling to give scientific talks at two different conferences in Seoul, so I jumped at the chance of a few days of vacation before his work starts, to explore Korea.
After two whirlwind days in Athens, we are on our way to Rhodes. Known as the largest of the Dodecanese islands (Greek islands known for their medieval castles and Byzantine Churches) Rhodes is in the Aegean Sea, a recess in the Mediterranean Sea between Europe and Asia. I once visited Athens for 24 hours. Although that sounds improbable, it happened. My husband and I were invited to a wedding in Greece and it was a no brainer to accept. After dropping off our bags at the hotel, we headed directly to the number one attraction, the breathtaking Acropolis of Athens. RV traveling is so new to me that every time we take off, I learn a different lesson or two. The purpose of our recent cross-country trip was to celebrate my husband’s milestone birthday where he would hike through the Grand Canyon, from rim to rim.
Travelnostalgia, as I have decided to call the dreaded disease for those who can't travel and are confined, had taken over me big time. Going on a trip seemed like the best medicine and going in an RV seemed like the best option.
There’s a new ailment in town brought on by Covid-19: it’s called Travel Nostalgia and so many of us are suffering from it.
